The City of Salina's 2025 amended budget public hearing is set for December 22.

This formal budget amendment is required when the total actual expenditures in any particular budgeted fund, exceed the total expenditure budget that was submitted to the state of Kansas for that publication budget year.

Salina adopted 2025 budget back on August 12, 2024.

The review and projections listed are based on October 31st actual:

General Fund

The original 2025 General Fund budget was $60,617,186.

The cost of the unexpected Smoky Hill River log jam, higher than anticipated employee payouts and higher than budgeted overtime costs are projecting the fund to be over budget approximately $2,000,000.

City's total came out to $62,600,000.

Special Parks and Recreation Fund

The original 2025 Special Parks and Rec Fund budget was $200,000. This included only the cost of replacement playground equipment.

It did not take into consideration the cost of mulch in the two new playgrounds, which was an additional $30,000.

Brining the total to $230,000.

Golf Fund

The original 2025 Golf Fund budget was $942,424.

Higher than budgeted part time salaries and higher than budgeted water bills, are causing the projections for this fund to be over budget by $60,826.

The total came out to $1,003,250.

Worker's Compensation Fund

The original 2025 Budget for the Worker's Compensation Fund budget was $300,000.

This was lowered based on previous year’s claims.

In 2025, claims are coming in higher than budgeted for $50,000 increase.

Total: $350,000.

Health Insurance Fund

The original 2025 Health Insurance Fund budget was $7,528,000.

Claims are currently projecting at $200,000 more than budgeted.

Total: $7,728,000.
