Ronald Walter Rassette, was born August 24, 1936. He grew up on a farm south of Dorrance, Kansas and moved to Salina where he married his high-school sweetheart, Marilyn Marcotte, on May 18, 1957. Ron and Marilyn were blessed with three children. Angela (Jennifer) of Wichita. Michael (Terri) & their children: Alison, Lance and Lawson of Salina. Ronald Jr. (Randa) & their children Trey and Tory of Overland Park.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Minnie Rassette and his sister Linda Weeks. His surviving siblings are: Melva (Frank) Peirano Russell, Betty Erlich Russell, Cleo (Larry) Plaggerman of Salina, Patricia (Andy) Schemp of Salina and Donald (Cheryl) of El Paso, Texas
Ron worked for Pepsi Cola, was a self-employed roofer and retired from the City of Salina Park Department in 1999. In his early years, Ron was an avid hunter, and fisherman. He was handy with tools and a good carpenter and "Fix-it man." He loved baseball and could pretty much tell you the line-up from about every major league baseball team in the 1950's and 60's when some of his favorite players like Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Ted Williams took the field. Ron was a provider. He loved his family and together, with Marilyn, raised their children with love and respect. He taught them that steady yet hard work would accomplish almost every task of life.
Ron… many knew him as only "Grandpa" had yet another more important love: His Grandchildren. Grandpa (and grandma at his side) loved to attend any activity that Alison, Lance, Lawson, Trey or Tory were involved in... whether it was soccer, basketball, football, baseball and pretty much every school event. He loved watching all of his grandchild participate and show off their talents. If someone needed to contact "Grandpa," he probably could be found next to a court, or by a ball field watching with a big smile on his face.
Visitation is planned for Friday, January 22 from 1-6 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary with family present from 4:30-6 p.m. A graveside service of family and close friend will be held at All Saints Cemetery on Saturday, January 23 at 2 p.m. The family requests social distancing and masks to be worn. When the time is right, a more appropriate ceremony will be planned.
Memorials in his name may be made to: Salina Baseball Enterprise Attn: Salina Monarchs, PO Box 1936, Salina, Kansas, 67402-1936.
