BALTIMORE – Former Kansas Baseball left-handed pitcher Blake Weiman had his contract selected by the Los Angeles Angels, the organization announced on Tuesday. Weiman, who pitched at Kansas for three seasons from 2015-17, is the first Kansas player to be promoted to the Major Leagues since Ryan Zeferjahn on Aug. 23, 2024.
Weiman signed a minor league contract with the Angels in February 2026. He posted a 1-0 record with a 1.93 ERA across 18.2 innings. He has made 17 appearances this season in the minors, including one save. Weiman has 25 strikeouts compared to four walks and opponents have hit only .171 against him.
Throughout his professional career, Weiman has been a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros and Angels organizations. In his nine minor league seasons, Weiman has gone 29-13 with a 3.94 ERA in 283 appearances.
A native of Littleton, Colorado, Weiman earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2017 and went 9-15 with a 5.68 ERA in 68 career appearances (21 starts) in his three years as a Jayhawk. His best season came his junior year when he posted a 5-1 record with a 2.80 ERA over 45.0 innings pitched in 30 appearances out of the bullpen. Weiman's five victories were tied for the most on the team in 2017.
He was also Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2016 and 2017, along with an Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team honoree in 2015.
