A southwest Saline County feedlot is out $92,000 after multiple head of cattle were stolen over an extended period of time.
Saline County Undersheriff Brent Melander said this morning that Smoky Hill Feeders, 11513 S. Soderberg Road, reported that from Jan. 31-June 10, 51 head of feeder cattle were stolen. The cattle weighed approximately 1,400 pounds each. Total loss was estimated at $92,000.
Melander said it took the company so long to report the theft because it had been doing research trying to determine how many head of cattle were missing.
Additionally, Melander said the Saline County Sheriff's Office has asked the Kansas Attorney General's Livestock and Brand Investigation Unit to assist in the investigation.
