The Southeast of Saline baseball team saw their season come to a close in Tuesday’s regional semifinals at the hands of the Ellsworth Bearcats, who advanced to the regional final with a 12-2 victory.
Despite graduating a massive class of seniors in 2023, the Trojans posted another strong season at 14-10.
SES opened postseason play strong with a 15-0 win over Sylvan-Lucas, setting up a third battle with Ellsworth, who did the same in a 15-0 victory over Minneapolis.
The two sides split their regular season series, but in this game the Bearcats struck first, rattling off four runs in the second and four more in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead into the fifth.
From there the two teams traded runs in the fifth, but the Bearcats found three more runs in the sixth to wrap up the contest an inning early.
Ellsworth would advance to the regional championship game where they fell to the 6-seed in Marysville by a final score of 9-4, allowing the hosts to punch their ticket to this year’s 3A state tournament.
The Trojans will say goodbye to just two seniors this offseason, with Treytan Olson and Eli Commerford set to graduate this spring.
