A contract worker was arrested after intentionally starting a fire inside a Dillons grocery store.
According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) at around 9:45 pm on Wednesday, officers and Salina Fire Department were dispatched to the Dillons on Cloud Street for the report of a fire inside the store's storage room.
Upon arrival, first responders and officers found a pallet containing laundry detergent and toilet paper products on fire, before it was extinguished.
After viewing surveillance video, SPD stated they identified a contract worker set the pallet on fire with a lighter. The suspect was later identified as 19-year old, Justin Burgess from Sedgewick.
Burgess started the fire during operating hours, which caused the store to close early. He was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges:
Aggravated Arson and Criminal Damage to Property.
Damage was valued at over $1000.
