Coyote men compete at KU Relays, Bethel Invitational

Kansas Wesleyan men's track competed at the 100th running of the Kansas Relays and the Bethel College Invitational this week, battling some adverse weather conditions along the way.

At the Kansas Relays held at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, a select group of Coyotes participated in the meet.

The 4x800m relay team of Ty Davidson (SO/Lakin, Kan.), Will Griffith, Giovanni Rios (SO/Temecula, Calif.) and Julian Avila (SO/Manhattan, Kan.) placed 12th with a time of 8:06.85.

Eryk Kyser (JR/Caney, Kan.) placed third in the long jump, only being outdistanced by a pair of athletes from the University of Kansas. Kyser had a mark of 7.25m in the event. He hit the NAIA A Standard with his jump.

Cole Parker (SR/Corning, Calif.) had a pair of Top 10 finishes at the Kansas Relays. He placed sixth in the shot put, with a mark of 15.25m. Parker also posted a third place finish in the javelin. He set another school record in the event and hit the NAIA A Standard with a mark of 59.44m.

A small group competed at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday.

Simeon Faagai (JR/Ponca City, Okla.) won the hammer throw with a mark of 48.80m, Jonathan Calzada (FR/Salina, Kan.) was third with a mark of 46.56m, and Cody Flax (JR/Culver, Kan.) was fifth with a mark of 45.30m.

Keegan Lott (FR/Horton, Kan.) placed second in the shot put with a mark of 14.57m, Dylan Worrell placed third with a mark of 13.56m, Jonathan Calzada placed fifth with a mark of 13.25m, and Jason Traister (FR/Plano, Texas) placed 11th with a mark of 11.69m.

In the discus, Jason Traister placed second with a mark of 37.70m, Simeon Faagai placed sixth with a mark of 36.17m, and Dylan Worrell placed ninth with a mark of 32.12m.

Keegan Lott placed second in the javelin with a mark of 50.28m and Simeon Faagai placed 10th with a mark of 29.64m.

Stevie Merrill placed 17th in the 1500m with a time of 4:42.58.

Kamal Murphy placed 11th in the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles with a time of 20.29 seconds.

KWU will host the Coyote Distance Carnival on Friday night at the Olson Family Track at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex. The event begins at 6 p.m.
