Sheriff: Investigation prompts to determine cause of fire resulting in nine animals deceased

SALINE COUNTY - An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of fire that resulted in nine animals deceased from a barn fire.

According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office on Monday at approximately 10:23 am, a horse barn in rural Saline County was completely consumed in flames.

Reportedly, five show horses and four dogs were deceased. 

The total loss of the show horses were approximately $100,000.

Moreover, miscellaneous tools and horse equipment used for the upkeep of the horses along with feed and supplements, was a total loss of approximately $7,179.

The value of the barn is unknown at this time.

As a result, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office has asked the Kansas State Fire Marshall to assist the investigation.

Total approximately loss at this time is $107,179.

Salina Post is following up with the Sheriff's Office to determine the whereabouts of the owner at the time of the fire.
