WICHITA - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Indoor Track and Field finished third at the KCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Heskett Center.
The finish is the highest finish for the Coyotes at the women's indoor championship in program history. Wesleyan's highlights at the meet included several All-KCAC performances coming in the middle and distance events, and KWU had three NAIA qualifiers and one KCAC Champion.
Assistant Track Coach Garrett Young received the KCAC Women's Indoor Track Assistant Coach of the Year award as the middle and distance Coyotes contributed a majority of KWU's scoring and helped the Coyotes to a third place finish.
The 4x800m relay team of Delaney Bond, Kirstin Hackney, Hailey Nordhus and Joni Schroeder was the KCAC Champion and qualified for the NAIA National Championships hitting the NAIA A Standard with a time of 9:26.08.
Makayla Little was second in the mile with a time of 5:21.24 and Joni Schroeder was third in 5:24.50.
The Distance Medley Relay team of Delaney Bond, Kirstin Hackney, Hailey Nordhus and Joni Schroeder finished second with a time of 12:55.96
In the 5000m, Micah Dickens was second with a time of 18:45.70, Kierra Jensen was third in 18:55.80, Charlee Lind was sixth in 19:19.25, Madisyn Ehrlich was eighth in 19:35.14 and Mya Schweitzer was 12th in 20:35.18.
In the 600m, Delaney Bond qualified for the NAIA National Championships posting a time of 1:37.51 hitting the NAIA B Standard and finishing third in the event. Ava Kenyon was fifth with a time of 1:40.55, Lauryn Mikkelson was eighth with a time of 1:43.51 and Taytum Reed was 11th with a time of 1:55.17.
Hailey Nordus punched her ticket to the NAIA National Championships in the 1000m finishing third with a time of 3:01.21, hitting the NAIA B Standard for the event. Kirstin Hackney was fifth in 3:04.90, Shelby Lingle was sixth in 3:06.17 and Emma McAlister was seventh in 3:10.96.
In the 800m, Delaney Bond led the Coyote finishers with a time of 2:20.87 finishing third, while Hailey Nordus was fifth in 2:25.79, Lauryn Mikkelson was sixth in 2:29.70, Emma McAlister was eighth in 2:31.57 and Taytum Reed was 12th in 2:47.65.
In the 3000m, Makayla Little was fourth in 10:49.41, Shelby Lingle was fifth in 10:52.67, Micah Dickens was sixth in 10:54.13, Kierra Jensen was seventh in 11:00.14, Madisyn Ehrlich was eighth in 11:06.87, Charlee Lind was 11th in 11:10.64 and Mya Schweitzer was 15th in 11:58.57.
The 4x400m relay team of Lauryn Mikkelson, Ava Kenyon, Emorie McNabb and Shelby Lingle finished fourth with a time of 4:12.72.
Elizabeth Stout was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 11.63m, Aunisty McNeal was ninth with a mark of 11.21m and Jadyn Mabry was 14th with a mark of 10.80m.
Tamia Cheeks reached the finals of the 60m hurdles and finished sixth with a time of 9.39 seconds after qualifying eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 9.55 seconds.
Tamia Cheeks set a new school record in the triple jump with a mark of 10.78m finishing seventh.
Paige Smith tied the school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.58m, finishing eighth. Corinne Hall and Tamia Cheeks tied for 10th with a mark of 1.48m and Trinity Windle was 12th with a mark of 1.48m.
Emorie McNabb finished 12th in the 200m preliminaries with a time of 27.00 seconds.
