MCPHERSON - A McPherson High School student was arrested today in connection to a threat to commit violence at the school.

On Monday evening, the McPherson Police Department received a report concerning a threat made on Snapchat to commit violence with knives at the high school, according to a news release posted on the McPherson KS Police Department Facebook page this afternoon.

Today, the department stationed additional officers at the high school and middle school.

"With the assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the McPherson Police Department identified the suspect who communicated the threat of violence via Snapchat as a 15-year-old McPherson High School student," the department noted.

The teen was arrested on a requested charge of criminal threat.

McPherson Police Chief Mikel T. Golden thanked students and parents who saw the Snapchat and reported it to law enforcement.

Additionally, Golden noted rumors of a threat of violence involving guns, were just that: rumors. There were no threats involving guns or firearms that were communicated.
