Kansas Wesleyan swept the final edition of the Kansas Conference men's and women's Golfer of the Week honors as announced by the KCAC Office.
Troy Watson (SR/Coffeyville) and Corey Mein (SO/Liberal) were named as the KCAC men's and women's Golfer of the Week, respectively, for their efforts for the Coyotes.
Watson's and Mein's selections come from nominations submitted by and voted on by conference sports information directors based on performances for the week of April 12-18.
Troy Watson played three rounds under-par or better against a loaded field at the U.C. Ferguson Classic hosted by Oklahoma City U this week. KWU was one of six NAIA Top 25 teams in the field that included No. 5 Bellevue, No. 8 OKlahoma City, No. 10 Texas Wesleyan, No. 16 Southwestern Christian and No. 17 Houston-Victoria. Watson finished seventh in the individual standings with a 6-under 207 for the tournament. He helped KWU finish sixth in the team standings out of the 15 teams in the tournament.
Corey Mein fired rounds of 77 and 78 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic to lead the Coyotes to a ninth place finish amongst a loaded field. In the tournament field were three ranked NAIA teams (Texas Wesleyan 13, Oklahoma City 16, Bellevue 25), three receiving votes teams (KWU, Wayland Baptist, William Penn), two of the top 8 teams in junior college (Redlands 4, Iowa Western 8), and two NCAA Division III teams ranked or receiving votes (UT-Dallas 8, East Texas Baptist RV). Mein finished with a score of 155 to finish tied for 22nd amongst the field of 97 players in the tournament.
The Coyote men just completed a second consecutive KCAC Championship by winning the KCAC Second Leg and finishing first in the KCAC overall results from the first and second legs combined. Watson also claimed the 2021 KCAC Individual Championship.
The Coyote women will play on Friday and Saturday in the KCAC Second Leg at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City.
