Donald LaVergne Huber, 94, passed away on March 28, 2021 at The Cedars in McPherson, Kansas. Don was born November 4, 1926 in Independence, Kansas, to Gale and Marvel Lee Huber.
He was a WWII veteran. Don graduated from Wichita University and married Christine Thomson in 1951. He had a long career as a petroleum geologist, and lived in Montana, North Dakota, Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
Don was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Liberal, Kansas, where he was the organist for many years.
Don moved to McPherson in 1998. It was a blessing that he met Shirley Unruh, and they enjoyed nearly two decades together. Don and Shirley traveled, attended First Presbyterian Church, and were active members of Genealogy Club, McPherson Gem and Mineral Club, and the Mud Creek Archeological Society.
A lifelong curiosity in many areas of interest left Don knowledgeable in geology, astronomy, Native American history, and environmental issues.
Don is survived by his children Clay Huber Arroyo, Seco, NM and Julie Ward, Belmont, MA; his sister Beverley Hooker (Jerry Carlson), Sequim, WA; grandchildren Ben Lucas, Cambridge, MA, Alex Lucas, Boston, MA, step-grandchildren Allison Ashe-Arriola, Charleston, SC, Bryan Ward, Salida, CO; nieces Holly Rainier, Lori Thomson, Sheri Thomson; nephews Mark Hooker, Scott Hooker, Jay Hooker.
Preceding him in death were Shirley Unruh and Christine Huber.
