Robert Wright Robson, 97 passed away November 2, 2024 at Village Manor in Abilene, Kansas. He was the son of Harry A. Robson and Leila I Wright. He was born December 21, 1926 in Abilene, Kansas.
He attended Abilene schools and graduated High School at AHS in 1944. He joined the Navy and was a WWII veteran where he was stationed in Guam. He married the lovely Anne Louise Robinson on December 22, 1949.
He graduated from Kansas State University in 1951 where he played basketball for the Wildcats. After returning to Abilene, he taught Algebra at Abilene High School then worked for his father who founded Robson Oil in 1924. He later took over Robson Oil until he retired and handed over the business to his son, Pat.
He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends to many destinations throughout the years. He served on the Abilene School Board, was a member of the Lion’s Club, The Kansas Oil Marketers Association, The First Presbyterian Church, and The Abilene Country Club Board. He became a pilot in the late 1970’s and had a passion for flying and playing golf. He was an icon in the Abilene community and always brought a smile and laughter to everyone he encountered.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Robson, parents Harry and Leila Robson, his son, Mike Robson, and his daughter in law Anna Robson.
Survivors include sister Virginia Anderson (Lyle) of Huntley, Illinois, son Patrick Robson (Sue) of Abilene, granddaughters Carey Jones (Derek) of Abilene, Natalie Lackey (Ryan) of Manhattan, KS, Emily Nusser (Justin) of St. John, KS, and Sally Robson of Abilene. Great grandchildren Kenlee Jones, Caroline Lackey, Brooke Lackey, Jameson Nusser, and Bailey Nusser.
There will be a private family graveside service at Abilene City Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dickinson County Community Foundation, St. Andrew’s School, and Meals on Wheels.
