Wind Surge shuts out Springfield in Game Two

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Wichita Wind Surge defeated the Springfield Cardinals 2-0 in Game Two of their opening series. 

Starting pitcher David Festa pitched five shutout innings allowed one hit and struck out eight of the 15 batters he faced.   He needed just 51 pitches and 43 of those pitches were strikes in his Wind Surge debut.

The Surge scored two runs in the third inning. The scoring started on a Alex Isola RBI double scoring Brooks Lee. Aaron Sabato hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Yunior Severino.

The Surge collected seven hits. Isola went 2-4 at the plate and drove in one run. Severino went 1-3 and scored one run.

RHP Hunter McMahon came out of the bullpen in the sixth for the Surge. He totaled three strikeouts and allowed zero hits. LHP Jordan Brink and LHP Michael Boyle closed it out. Boyle got the save and Festa got the win.

NOTES – Festa made his first Class AA appearance this evening and is the Minnesota Twins No. 11 prospect. The Surge’s win against Springfield marks the third time in franchise history that the team has only allowed one hit and first since 2021.
