NWS issues red flag warnings in our area for Friday

Red flag warnings have been issued for counties in our area for Friday.

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a red flag warning in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Friday that includes the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, and relative humifity as low as 13 percent are forecast.

Any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and exhibit extreme fire behavior, the weather service warned. Use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could lead to fire ignition.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a red flag warning in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Friday that includes the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Ottawa County

Republic County

Northwest winds sustained near 20 mph, with gusts around 30 mph, and humidity between 17 and 22 percent are forecast.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended, the weather service noted.
