FHSU men's cross country places 4th at Roadrunner Invite

DENVER - The Fort Hays State men's cross country team competed well on Friday, placing fourth at a competitive Roadrunner Invitational.

Three nationally-ranked teams and two Division I teams had entries in the race.

The Tigers picked up 106 points in the team standings, 10 points clear of host MSU-Denver. Robbie Schmidt led the Tigers in ninth place, traversing the eight-kilometer course at Washington Park in 25:05.7.

Caleb Carrasco was the next Tiger to cross the line, placing 29th with a time of 26:22.9. Jaret Pfizenmaier (26:39.3) and Erick Estrada (26:42.0) finished back-to-back, placing 37th and 38th, respectively. Aaron Mangan rounded out the FHSU top five in 56th with a time of 27:27.2.

Colorado School of Mines, the top-ranked team in the country, won the team race with five runners in the top 10, including individual champion Chris Cathcart and his time of 24:16.9.

The Tigers are scheduled to run again next Friday (Sept. 24) when they head to Emporia State for the ESU Invitational beginning at 5 p.m.
