The Saline County Treasurer's Office is receiving calls from people who are receiving texts or emails stating that their property is in foreclosure.

Properties that are in foreclosure receive written notification from the county’s attorney. Saline County Treasurer Jim DuBois said his office does not send out text or email notifications.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Treasurer’s Office at (785) 309-5860.

According to IBM, smishing is a social engineering attack that uses fake mobile text messages to trick people into downloading malware, sharing sensitive information or sending money to cybercriminals. The term “smishing” is a combination of “SMS”—or “short message service,” the technology behind text messages—and “phishing.”
