The Salina Central boy's basketball team will open sub-state play on Wednesday evening with a road trip to take on the #2 team in Class 5A in Hutchinson.
The Mustangs will come into this semifinal as the 15-seed at 5-15 while the Salthawks enter as the 2-seed at 19-1.
These two met back in early December in what would go down as a 60-27 victory for Hutch, but both teams have come a long way since that week one matchup.
With that said, the Mustangs will still be heavy underdogs in this playoff opener and will have their hands full in hostile territory tonight.
"Hutchinson has been undefeated most of the year, ranking #2 during that time," Central head coach Ryan Modin said. "They're probably the most disciplined team we’ve seen. Their guards spread the floor, are quick on the drive, and create a lot of open threes that their shooters can hit. We’ll need to be really disciplined, take care of the ball, and be patient in the half-court to have a chance to win."
The winner of this contest will advance to the sub-state finals to square off with either the 7-seed in Topeka West (13-7) or the 10-seed in Ark City (10-10) on Saturday.
Tip-off between the Mustangs and Salthawks is scheduled for 7:00 at Hutchinson High School.
