A pair of fast starts for the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes sent KWU to a doubleheader sweep over Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday at Dean Evans Stadium.

Conditions were homerun favorable at the stadium with a strong southwest wind blowing straight out to center field.

Wesleyan hit five homers in the doubleheader, with Haydn Brown (SR/Gardnerville, Nev.) hitting one in each game, and Aack Beatty, William Dryburgh (SR/St. Joseph, Mo.) and Dustin Sipe (SR/Aztec, N.M.) all hitting one each.

Pitching was again stellar for the Coyotes, as KWU hurlers held DWU to eight hits in the two games and only two runs.

The opener was all Coyotes all the time. Brown got the scoring started in the first with a massive homer to right for three runs. Jarrett Gable (SR/Colleyville, Texas) added two more in the frame on a double down the line in left.

KWU added three more in the second when Beatty walked with the bases loaded, Diego Solis (SO/El Paso, Texas) singled in a run, and Kevin Esquilin-Cruz (SR/Trujilo Alto, Puerto Rico) walked with the bases loaded.

The Coyotes got two more in the third on Dryburgh's round-tripper and a sacrifice fly by Beatty.

The Tigers got on the board in the sixth, but Dryburgh's 2-run double in the bottom of the inning gave the Coyotes a 12-1 lead. DWU added a run in the seventh, but couldn't score more as KWU claimed the 12-2 run rule win.

Dryburgh had three hits and drove in three runs. Brown and Gable had two hits each. Brown drove in three. Nathan Righi (JR/Pekin, Ill.) was again masterful on the bump, going six innings and striking out 10, allowing one run on four hits. Thalen Wright (FR/Kansas City, Mo.) pitched the seventh.

Jarrett Brannen (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) tossed a gem in the second game, a 2-hit shutout that the Coyotes claimed 8-0.

Sipe drove in four of KWU's eight runs, and Beatty three.

Beatty got things started in the first with a 3-run homer after Dryburgh led off with a single and Brown was hit by a pitch.

Sipe's 2-run single in the second game KWU a 5-0 lead.

Three more in the fourth for the Coyotes as Sipe hit a 2-run homer and Brown made it back-to-back jacks with a solo shot.

The teams meet again on Sunday with the Coyotes going for the sweep. First pitch was at noon at The Dean.
