SALINA - Olivia L. Vega, 84, was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Mrs. Vega was born January 13, 1937 in Las Varas, Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Dolores Montanez de Lujan and Eusebio Lujan.
She was a lifelong follower of Christ, dedicated spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Vega had worked as a schoolteacher in Mexico prior to meeting her spouse. She raised her family throughout the States and Panama as an Airforce wife before permanently settling in Salina.
She enjoyed volunteering her time at Sacred Heart Cathedral, singing in the Bishop’s Choir, interpreting for family and friends, bowling, cooking, visiting with new and old friends, and continuing to teach, guide and care for each new generation in her family with her love and wisdom.
Mrs. Vega was preceded in everlasting life by her parents; loving husband Ladislao; two siblings, Victoria and Rutilio; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild were called to heaven before their earthly debut.
Left behind to mourn and honor her are sons David J. of Salina, Edward E. of Wichita and daughter, Nora (Michael) Vega-Mans of Sierra Vista, AZ; siblings Alicia Lujan de Martinez, Manuel (Rayo) Lujan, Ignacio (Maria del Carmen) Lujan, Elias (Carolina) Lujan, Jesus Lujan, Armando (Teresa) Lujan; grandchildren Amos (Kim) Vega, Miranda (Aaron) Brown, Joseph, Michael, and Dominic Mans; great-grandchildren Avery, Lainey, Graham, Genevieve, Ava Amalie Brown, and Derek, Christian, and Chloe Vega.
A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral mass following at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Sunday August 8 in All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
