The Southeast of Saline girl’s basketball team followed their 52-41 win over Beloit with a 48-34 victory over Hoisington in the semifinal round on Thursday, and are still stepping ahead of the sub-state championship game on Saturday.

With this win, the Lady Trojans move to 19-3 on the year while the Lady Cardinals campaign comes to a close at 13-9.

This was a closely contested game for most of the contest, but a pivotal third-quarter sequence swung momentum in Southeast’s favor when a technical foul was called on an illegal substitution, giving SES a four-point swing and allowing them to extend the lead from three to seven.

From there, the Lady Trojans never looked back, outscoring Hoisington 19-12 the rest of the way to secure a spot in the sub-state championship game on Saturday.

It was another masterful performance by Reagan Goetz, who tallied 20 points for a second-straight playoff game, including seven in the second half to help put this game away.

Nobody else notched double digits on the Southeast side but five different Lady Trojans found the scoring column in the win including six or more for four of the five starters.

Kylee Hahn led the Lady Cardinals with 15 points in the loss, including ten down the stretch, but it proved to be too little too late as Hoisington’s season met its end in Russell.

Next up, the Lady Trojans will attempt to hand 2nd-ranked Phillipsburg their first loss of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, with a ticket to this year’s 3A state tournament on the line.
