The Sacred Heart boys tennis team edged Salina South on Tuesday to take first place in the team standings at the Ellsworth Invitational.

The Knights were led by their singles players, Casey Perrin and Jace Douglas. Perrin took second place at No. 1 singles, losing in the final to Peyton Ryan of Central Plains. Douglas finished first at No. 2 singles, defeating Bobby Pace of South in the semifinals and Chase Maier of Hoisington in the final.

In doubles play, South’s Isaac Harper and Andrew Schrage finished second at the No. 1 spot. Harper and Schrage beat Sacred Heart’s Ben Cheney and Sean Riordan in the semifinals and lost to Ellsworth’s Brendan Anderson and Chase Bourbon in the final. Cheney and Riordan ended up finishing third.

South’s Jacob Macey and Kamden Phalen won the No. 2 doubles division, while Sacred Heart’s Landon Johnson and Thomas Cheney took third.

“To have all four of our entries earn medals was a great accomplishment,” Sacred Heart Coach Tom Perrin said. “I would call it the best team performance in my five years as coach.”
