Former Salina Commissioner and Kan. Legislator fills vacant Saline Co. Commission seat

The Salina County Republican Party Central Committee have made a selection to fill the Saline County Commission vacant seat.

The committee met on Thursday evening for the Board of County Commissioners District One precinct convention to select a nominee to fill the unexpired term of Monte Shadwick.

According to the committee, members selected Tom Arpke by the committee to finish Shadwick’s unexpired term.

Arpke previously served as a Salina City Commissioner, a Kansas Representative and Senator.

“We appreciate everyone who participated in the convention process and congratulate Tom Arpke on his selection,” said Brenda R. Smith, chair of the Salina County Republican Party.

The results of the convention will be forwarded to Governor Laura Kelly for approval.

Arpke served on the City Commission from 2009 to 2010. He then served as a Representative for the 69th District from 2011 to 2013, and as a Senator for District 24 from 2013 to 2017.
