Teaching artist Priscilla Howe will be in residence in Salina beginning next week, thanks to the Arts Infusion Program of Salina Arts & Humanities.
Howe, who has traveled the world captivating audiences of all ages, is scheduled to work with both school children and other community members.
She will be in residency Monday through Friday and Jan. 11-12 in Salina area schools, working with students in grades K-12. A returning resident artist, Howe offers a highly dynamic program with curricular connections in language arts that allow students to explore creative self-expression.
Additionally, Howe is scheduled to lead a community workshop of “Storytelling to Strengthen Communities” in the Salina Arts & Humanities Community Room (211 W.Iron Ave., 2nd Floor), at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. During the workshop, Howe will lead participants in a fun and participatory session on strengthening connections and communities through sharing stories, according to information from Arts & Humanities. The workshop is suited for storytellers, artists of any discipline, nonprofit professionals, and community organizers.
A resident of Lawrence, Howe has been telling stories in Salina for more than 20 years as a visiting teaching artist and a performer at the Smoky Hill River Festival.
