Today in Weather History: Salina was quite cold in 1983

Weather History for Friday, December 25, 2020, from the National Weather Service in Wichita:

In 1983, it was the coldest Christmas on record for most of the central and eastern United States as 125 cities set record lows for Dec. 25. Among them were Salina and Wichita, where the mercury tumbled to 7 below and 6 below zero respectively. For 34 cities, the lows were also December records.

In 1987, residents in Tucson, Ariz., awoke to a white Christmas for the first time in 47 years, when 2 to 4 inches accumulated across the area.
