College students interested in a career in law enforcement can now apply for the Kansas Highway Patrol’s (KHP) Collegiate Law Enforcement Academy, a four-day immersive experience held annually in Salina the week before Memorial Day.
The academy offers students a first-hand look into the life of a Kansas State Trooper through scenario-based training, physical fitness exercises, and classroom instruction at the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy. Participants will engage in traffic stop simulations, firearms training, defensive tactics, and team-building exercises. The program also features demonstrations from the KHP Canine Unit, an aircraft introduction, and a tour of the Communications Center.
To apply, students must submit an 80-100-word essay on their interest in the academy, along with an endorsement from their school’s dean, sponsorship from a college advisor or department head, and a completed medical authorization form. A sponsor must accompany students but can attend at no additional cost.
The $150 registration fee covers training, lodging, and meals. Interested students can visit www.KansasHighwayPatrol.org/KHPjobsorg/CollegiateLawAcademy or call 785-822-1700 for more information.
