A male suspect was arrested after an alleged assault on a motel employee.
According to the Salina Police Department on Thursday, July 10th at around 11:30 pm, the police department received calls from the Airliner Motel (781 N. Broadway) about a suspect 'damaging property' and 'armed with a large piece of glass.'
When officers arrived to the scene, they discovered a man identified as 48-year old, John Rodgers of Salina. Allegedly, Rodgers' hands were covered with blood and officers connected him to a broken window on the office of the motel.
Throughout the investigation, officers spoke with employees and they stated that earlier in the evening a 'moped key' was located on the ground that belonged to Rodgers. Employees attempted to return the key to him, but Rodgers could be located. The employees then kept the key in the office for safe keeping.
Later on, police stated that an employee 'heard banging coming from the parking lot' and noticed Rodgers was 'banging on the hood of an employee's car.' Reportedly, Rodgers was yelling about his missing moped key.
The employee who heard the banging, then gave the key to Rodgers. Subsequently, Rodgers then 'broke out the glass to a fire extinguisher case, grabbed the fire extinguisher, drove his moped and threw the extinguisher through an office window.'
Furthermore, he then grabbed a piece of broken glass from the window and attempted to 'stab the employee.' Police stated that Rodgers 'struck the employee in the face,' damaging their glasses. An individual in the area intervened and restrained Rodgers until police were called and arrived.
Rodgers was taken into custody without incident and is facing the following requested charges:
Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property, Battery, and DUI.
