Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer wrapped up its best non-conference results in 10 years on Tuesday as the Coyotes blanked the Doane University Tigers 2-0 at JRI Hospitality Stadium at Graves Family Sports Complex.
Wesleyan finishes its non-conference slate with a 3-1-1 record the best since 2014, heading into next week's KCAC opener at Bethel.
The Coyotes were in control from the opening kickoff. It took only until the seventh minute for the Coyotes to light the lamp for the first time.
Emilio Rodriguez sent a corner kick into the box to the awaiting head of Quatama Massaquoi who knocked the ball in from just outside the 6-yard box to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.
Plenty of other opportunities existed for the Coyotes in the first 45 minutes, but it was in the 35th when the call was answered again.
This time Zachariah Younis was able to finish off a shot from right in front of goal thanks to a pair of outstanding passes from Alejandro Diaz Castro and Leonardo Palencia to set up the score.
Doane came out on the offensive to start the second half, but the Coyotes would not concede a goal to the Tigers.
Wesleyan's best scoring chance came in the 60th minute off another set piece, but a pair of shots by Massaquoi and a rebound shot by Skyler Denny were both saved.
The Coyotes outshot Doane 14-6 in the match, led by Mateo Hoyos with three shots off the bench. Shae Wirt had three saves in goal while recording another clean sheet.
