The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and Barnes & Noble College are pleased to announce that Kansas Wesleyan had a conference-leading 17 volleyball student-athletes that have been named 2021-22 KCAC Scholar-Athletes.
Barnes & Noble College is the official sponsor of KCAC Scholar-Athlete and Scholar Team awards, and is the official campus bookstore and course material provider of the KCAC.
Hinamalailena Kua (SO/Hilo, Hawaii), Mackenzie Pease (SR/Manhattan), Alexis Utz (SO/Kansas City, Mo.), Josie Deckinger (SO/Wichita), Ryann Kats (SR/Prairie View), Emily Monson (SR/Cheney), Cortney Hanna (JR/Lawrence), Audrey Sineath (SO/Gardner), Haylie Rodriguez (SR/Salina), Megan Peeler (SO/Russell), Morgan Bryand (JR/Wichita), Allisan McGowan (JR/Pratt), Delaney Nash (JR/Salina), Emilly Fernandes (SO/Spring, Texas), Maddy Beckett (JR/Halstead), Avery DeWalt (SO/Keller, Texas), and Chelsea James (JR/Wichita) all earned the award.
Kansas Wesleyan's 17 scholar-athletes leads the conference. Friends has 14 honorees, while Tabor and Saint Mary each have 12. Oklahoma Wesleyan and Ottawa also had double-digit honorees, with each squad having 11 athletes earn the scholar-athlete distinction. Avila saw nine athletes make the list, followed up by Bethany, Bethel, Southwestern, and Sterling, who each had eight scholar-athletes. Rounding out the list of honorees is McPherson, with seven, and York, with two.
The All-KCAC Scholar-Athlete Academic Award recognizes excellence in the classroom by KCAC member student-athletes who are sophomores or above in academic standing at the beginning of the semester in which they compete, carry a minimum 3.250 cumulative GPA at the beginning of the semester in which they compete and must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at the KCAC institution to be eligible.
