Flood warnings in Clay, Marion counties through Thursday night

Flood warnings have been issued for counties in our area.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a flood warning in effect from Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night for the Republican River at Clay Center.

At 5:30 a.m. CDT Thursday the river level was 14.3 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage this afternoon to a crest of 15.1 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late this afternoon. Flood stage is 15.0 feet.

At 15.0 feet, lowland agricultural flooding occurs from U.S. Highway 24 to Milford Lake. At 17.0 feet, Flooding occurs between 16th, 17th, and 18th Roads and between Limestone and Osage Roads.

Additionally, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning that continues for the Cottonwood River near Florence until Thursday evening.

At 2:15 a.m. CDT Thursday the river level was 21.2 feet. The river was expected to rise above flood stage early this morning to a crest of 22.4 feet this morning. It will then fall below flood stage this morning. Flood stage is 22.0 feet.

At 22.0 feet, minor flooding of the left bank and roads along the north bank will begin.
