The Southeast of Saline girl’s basketball team secured a third-place finish at this year’s Sterling Tournament on Friday and got back in the win column with a convincing 47-31 victory over the Lyons Lions.

With this win, the Lady Trojans move to 9-2 on the season while Lyons falls to 5-7.

This also keeps Southeast’s streak of not losing back-to-back games intact. The last time the Lady Trojans lost two straight games was in December of 2020 to begin the season.

SES trailed Lyons going into the second quarter, but turned up the heat defensively, holding the Lions to just three points in the frame to pull away before halftime and put the game to bed in the third.

The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Reagan Goetz, who incredibly dropped a game-high 13 points without the aid of a single field goal, finishing 13-16 from the charity stripe.

Goetz was assisted by Lexi Jacobson and Avery Caselman, who added double-digit scoring nights of their own, with 12 and 11 points respectively with four other Lady Trojans chipping in to score.

Caitlyn Belote and Yamylye Ramirez led Lyons in the losing effort with 11-point performances, but just four of the nine Lady Lions who saw the floor were able to get into the scoring column.

SES also turned up the heat in transition, where they outscored Lyons 20-8 off turnovers despite being outscored 20-16 in the paint.

Next up, the Lady Trojans will turn their attention to a road trip to Republic County, looking to regain their stranglehold on the league.
