Dennis "Joe" Pflaum, age 75 of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at HaysMed. Joe was born on November 5, 1947, in Falls City, Nebraska to Albert and Leola (Wissman) Pflaum. On October 5, 1969, he married Vicki (Furnas) in the Falls City Methodist Church.
Joe was the owner of Brown’s Shoe Fit in Hays for 41 years. In addition to owning the store he drove an Athletic Bus for Fort Hays State, drove a flagger vehicle for Hess Services moving oilfield tanks, as well as helping with car transports for local car dealerships.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman particularly hunting and fishing and enjoyed traveling the country. His greatest joy was being able to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Pflaum of Hays; his son, Aaron Matthew Pflaum and significant other, Stacy Budig and his children, twin girls, Brooke and Brittany and his son, Blake all of Hays; his daughter, Lindsay Hart and husband Jamie and their son, Braxton all of Hays; two sisters, Rosie Wanchisen of Denver, Colorado and Joyce Neilsen and husband Jim of Broomfield, Colorado as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents,; a brother, Kenny Pflaum and his wife Lori; and a brother-in-law, Tom Wanchisen.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church of Hays with pastor Troy Miller officiating.
Private family burial will take place in Falls City.
