The Southeast of Saline softball team dropped a two-game non-league set with the Clay Center Lady Tigers by final scores of 8-2 and 12-10.

Despite the tough set, the Lady Trojans will still be 9-3 and a perfect 4-0 in league play heading into the back nine of the 2022 season.

Clay Center got out to an early 3-0 lead in game one and kept that advantage thanks to good pitching and solid defense, stranding or eliminating ten Trojan baserunners.

SES was outhit just 11-10 in the first contest but couldn’t scratch across more than two runs in the sixth as a big bottom half of the same inning helped the Tigers cement an 8-2 victory.

In game two Clay Center would once again outhit the Lady Trojans by one but this time Southeast got run support in bunches scoring three runs in the second, fifth and sixth to take a 10-9 lead into the seventh.

Down to their final three outs, the Lady Tigers got to work, getting two baserunners aboard before walking off SES with a three-run home run to secure a 12-10 win.

Brenna Baird shined the brightest in the Lady Trojan lineup combining to go 5-7 at the plate with 6 RBI throughout the day.

SES will be back in action on Thursday as they return home for the Trojan War with Beloit.
