WHY: The Chiefs have made a strong push for the NFL’s Play 60 and FLAG Football initiatives and the inclusion of all children in those programs, regardless of physical or intellectual abilities. Like the Chiefs, Special Olympics Missouri, Special Olympics Kansas and the YMCA Challenger Program hold the belief that all children need to know the importance of staying fit and leading a healthy lifestyle, making all organizations great working partners.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports. The goal is to give them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing gifts, skills and friendship with each other, their families and the community. The YMCA Challenger Program is for children and young adults from ages 4-30+ with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities, and gives them the chance to learn, grow and thrive through recreational and social opportunities. The program shines a light on the importance of healthy activities, and how they can make a difference both physically and personally. To learn more about YMCA Challengers, please click here.
