The Solomon girl's basketball team will be the first in our area to kick off sub-state play on Thursday, when they travel to Sylvan Grove to battle the Sylvan-Lucas Lady Mustangs.
The Lady Gorillas enter the bracket as the 7-seed at 4-15 while the Lady Mustangs come in as the 2-seed at 14-5.
While pulling off an upset of this magnitude will be a true challenge, Solomon is relishing the opportunity to avenge a loss that ended their run two years ago, and to see all the lessons they have learned throughout the year pay off when it matters most.
"The girls have come a long way from where they've been," Solomon head coach Luke Riordan said. "Their attitude throughout the year has been incredible, and I am excited for the challenge against a great team with an amazing coach in Sylvan-Lucas."
The winner of this game will move on to the bracket semifinals to take on either Rural-Vista (13-6) or Lincoln (8-10) next Thursday at Goessel High School.
On the other side of the bracket Elyria Christian (16-4) earned a first-round bye and will square off with either Canton-Galva (12-8) or Goessel (11-8) in the semifinals.
Tip-off between the Lady Gorillas and Mustangs is set for 7:00 at Sylvan-Lucas High School.
