SALINE COUNTY — A house fire was to blame for the severe injuries a couple suffered in Saline County.
According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office, on Thursday deputies and Rural Fire Districts 5, 7 and 2 arrived to a working house fire in the 1500 block of N. Marymount.

Once authorities extinguished the fire, deputies rescued a couple from the home. However, it was reported that a 75-year old female received serious burns and an 83-year old male suffered smoke inhalation.
The 75-year old female resident was transported to Salina Regional and then was transferred to Ascension Via Christi in Wichita. The 83-year old male resident was transported to Salina Regional Health Center.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be due to electrical issues. The residence is a total loss and the amount of loss is still being evaluated, according to Saline Co. Operations Captain Jim Hughes.
