Registrations are coming in at a record pace for the 11th annual Fe for a Cure Race/Walk, Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. Early registrations have already surpassed 1,100 runners and walkers for the event – a pace about 20% ahead of last year’s early registrations, which led to a final total of 1,214 participants. Event organizers have a goal of having 1,500 registered participants for this year’s race.
Thanks to support from the event’s sponsors, 100% of entry fees and donations to Fe for a Cure are directed to assist patients undergoing treatment at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. Registration is $25 for ages 12 and older and $10 for ages 11 and younger. Race entry includes a commemorative tshirt while supplies last. You can register online at feforacure.com. You also can register in person at Packet Pick-up on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Race Day before the event beginning at 6 a.m.
Funds raised support a number of programs at the Cancer Center including the Patient Meal Program, Appearance Center, Transportation Assistance and out-of-town patient accommodations at the Rebecca A. Morrison House.
Festivities on Race Day start at 7:40 a.m. recognizing all cancer survivors in attendance. The event’s USATF-certified 5K, which starts and finishes on Santa Fe Avenue in front of the Cancer Center, starts at 8 a.m. The course takes runners through Salina’s historic downtown corridor and winds back through two of Salina’s iconic parks along the Smoky Hill River Channel. The 1-mile fun run will commence from the same start/finish line at 8:10 a.m.
In addition to registering, there are many other ways to support the event:
Purchase a memorial ribbon – You can purchase a purple ribbon yard sign for $10 each to honor or remember a loved one who has had cancer, or is currently battling the disease. Ribbons can be decorated and will be displayed on Race Day along Santa Fe Avenue in front of the Tammy Walker Cancer Center and Salina Regional Health Center. The ribbons are yours to keep after the event is over. Purchase ribbons in person in the main lobby at the Cancer Center or online at feforacure.com.
Purchase a raffle ticket – Salina businesses have donated a number of items, which have been placed into four gift packages that will be raffled off on Race Day. Items include gift cards for dining, shopping and entertainment experiences, and other family fun. Raffle tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online at feforacure.com, during Packet Pick-up and on Race Day.

Register as a Couch Potato – Want to receive a t-shirt from this year’s event, but can’t participate? The Couch Potato entry option secures you a race shirt and no one will ever know you didn’t participate! Couch Potato entries are $25 ages 12 and older and $10 ages 11 and younger (same price as race entry). Register for Couch Potato at feforacure.com and click on the
“Register Now” button. You can pick up your t-shirt at Packet Pick-up on Sept. 18.
Make a donation – One-hundred percent of entry fees and donations to the Fe for a Cure Race/Walk are directed to support patients at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. Go to feforacure.com and click on the “Donate” tab to make a donation. You also can mail a check made out to Fe for a Cure and send it to the Salina Regional Health Foundation, P.O. Box 618,

Volunteer – Fe for a Cure could still use a few road guards along the course to direct participants, encourage runners and re-route traffic during the race. Volunteers must be able to report for duty from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Race Day, and they will receive a Fe for a Cure
