Obituary | Hazel M. Ranney of Solomon, Kansas | Wilson Family Funeral Home

July 16, 1929 -June 13, 2021

Hazel Marie (Cochran) Ranney, 91, Solomon, died Sunday, June 13, 2021 in Junction City.  She was born July 16, 1929 on the farm at Little River, KS to Jerre and Zella (Miller) Cochran.

The family moved to Lamar in 1941 and Hazel graduated from the eighth grade there.  Her freshman and sophomore years, she drove to Delphos to attend school.  The family moved to Delphos in 1945 and she graduated from Delphos High School in 1947.  Hazel worked for Baldwin Grocery Store for one year and at the State Bank of Delphos for ten years.  Hazel and Duane Ranney were united in marriage in 1957 and they moved to San Diego, CA for three years.  In 1960, they moved back to the farm. Hazel was the assistant activities director at Good Samaritan in Minneapolis for ten years.

Hazel was a member of the Delphos United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Women’s Auxiliary, and the Solomon Yoked Parish in Solomon.  She also served as a board member for Love, INC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Duane; sister Norma Balaun;  and grandson Levi Duane Shipley.

Survivors are her children Pennie (Lyle) Shipley, Linda (Robert) Aylward, and Diane (Larry) Moschera; grandchildren Mindy (Dusty) Newberry, Brittany Shipley, Matthew, John, Mark (Kendall), and Maggie Aylward, Natalie (Cooper) Jones, Adam Schklar, and Laura (Greg) Bradach; great-grandson Liam Isaac Ortiz; and three great-granddaughters, Raylie and Layken Newberry and Lexi Bradach.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 16 in the Delphos Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Yoked Parish in Solomon.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. 

Memorials may be made to the Delphos Museum or the Yoked Parish in Solomon and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
