SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball dropped a straight set decision to the Evangel University Valor 25-19, 25-14, 25-23 on Saturday at AGFInancial Arena.
The loss ends KWU's five-match winning streak, and evens KWU's Kansas Conference record at 1-1.
KWU led 4-3 in the first set, but a 5-0 run from Evangel gave the Valor the lead at 8-4. Evangel pushed out to a 15-9 lead in the set, but the Coyotes came back to get within three at 15-12. KWU got within two at 17-15, but Evangel scored the next three to lead 20-15. The Coyotes could get no closer the rest of the set.
The Coyotes led 10-6 in the second set when things quickly turned in favor of Evangel. The Valor used an 11-1 run to take a 17-11 lead in the set. It was 19-14 when Evangel closed the set with a 6-0 run.
Wesleyan led early in the third, and had a 19-12 lead in the set when the Valor made a run to get back within two at 20-18. The Valor later tied it at 21-all and took a 23-22 lead before the Coyotes tied it back up at 23-all. Evangel scored the last two points of the set to claim the match.
Ryan Pennington had 11 kills and added 11 digs for the Coyotes to lead all attackers. Aidyn Lagergren had 10 kills. Blair Pennington had 24 assists, 11 digs and had four 4 total blocks. Tristyn Hedman had 16 digs.
