Salina man prohibited from possessing firearms, arrested after a conducted traffic stop.
According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on April 23 at around 2:00 pm, an officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation in the area of Cloud and Broadway.
The vehicle was then stopped and contact was made with the driver Jason McKellips (39) of Salina.
The officer then located a handgun in the vehicle and was aware McKellips was prohibited from possessing firearms, due to a protection order against him.
Furthermore, it was determined McKellips possibly had more guns in his residence.
Afterwards, a search warrant was conducted and two additional firearms were located. There also was a juvenile inside the residence, which was on the west side of Salina, at the time of the search warrant.
McKellips was booked into the Saline County Jail in reference to Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Contributing to a Child’s Misconduct.
