A teen from Salina was arrested after he allegedly stole his sister's SUV.

Officers were sent to the Quality Inn, 2110 West Crawford Street on Tuesday for the report of a stolen vehicle. Sharon Williamson-Lytle, 32, of Salina, told police that she had been staying there with her 16-year-old brother. She said she awoke around 4 a.m. on Tuesday to find that her vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse, was missing, and noted that she had not given her brother permission to take the vehicle, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. The SUV was valued at $12,000.

At 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, an officer was patrolling in the 100 block of South College Avenue and observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen Traverse traveling southbound. The officer turned around, observed the license plate, and confirmed it was the stolen vehicle, Forrester explained.

The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of South Clark Street and University Place and arrested the woman's brother on the following requested charges, Forrester reported.

Felony theft

Driving while suspended

The SUV was returned to the woman, he added.
