On Friday night, a man was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm outside the front of the Salina Public Library building.
According to Salina Police Captain James Feldman on May, 9th at around 9:00 am, a Salina resident noticed 37-year old, Deron McGowan was holding a gun in front of the Salina Public Library building.
Feldman stated the resident went to the Saline County building nearby and reported about McGowan to court security. Saline Co. officials then contacted the Salina Police Department. After the report, officers traveled to the library and upon arrival they discovered McGowan in the area.
As police approached McGowan, they located the handgun that was on him. Police determined from his criminal history, that he was prohibited from owning a firearm. Police then apprehended the gun and arrested McGowan.
McGowan was booked into the Saline County Jail for Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
