OTTAWA, Kan. - Kansas Wesleyan Flag Football fell 40-13 to the Baker University Wildcats in the KCAC Semifinals on Saturday at AdventHealth Field.
Baker jumped on the board early, scoring the first play from scrimmage of the game and the Coyotes found themselves in an early deficit.
The Coyotes came back and tied things up with 6:21 left in the first quarter as Chihiro Iwata hit Jenise Washington with a 62-yard pass getting the Coyotes out from the shadow of their own goal line at the KWU-1 out to the Baker 17. Four plays later Iwata found Jazmine Whitfield for a five-yard touchdown pass and the Coyotes tied it up.
Baker answered right back scoring on its next drive and led 13-6 after a quarter.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 20-7 with 6:16 left in the second quarter, but the Coyotes bounced back and scored on their next drive capping the march with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Iwata to Aliyah Wood to make it 20-13 with 2:28 left in the half.
Baker scored again with 40 seconds left in the half to take a 27-13 lead into the half.
Baker added two fourth quarter scores to push the advantage out to 40-13.
KWU outgained Baker 312-283, but the Wildcats had 118 yards rushing in the game, compared to just 10 yards on the ground for the Coyotes.
Iwata was 31 of 51 for 312 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Wood led the receivers with 11 catches for 112 yards and a score.
