Salina Police Department officers are investigating the theft of specialized equipment reported by Kansas Gas Service employees working in the 200 block of W. Claflin Avenue.
According to Capt. James Feldman of the Salina Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. Workers had temporarily set down a Radio Detection TX-5 gas line locator in an orange safety backpack while performing tasks in the area. When they returned, the equipment was missing.
The stolen unit, used to locate underground gas lines, was valued at $5,000.
No suspects or witnesses have been identified, and SPD officers are urging anyone with information about the theft to contact the Salina Police Department at (785) 826-7210 or Crimestoppers at (785) 825-TIPS.
