
McPHERSON – Freshman Daniel Harkin (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) punched his first ticket to the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, helping the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes to a fourth-place finish at the KCAC Cross Country Championships.
Harkin posted a 14th place finish, covering the 8K course in 26:19.79, leading the way for the Coyotes. Shane Calvin (SO/Lakin, Kan.) was 25th in 27:02.62, Giovanni Rios (FR/Temecula, Calif.) was 31st in 27:32.87, Austin Hess (SO/Garden City, Kan.) was 32nd in 27:34.17, Jack Horacek (FR/Topeka, Kan.) was 52nd in 28:38.05, Cisco Alvarez (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 61st in 29:05.21, Timothy Kilburn (SO/Camp Humphreys, South Korea) was 73rd in 29:45.11, Trey Stramel (SO/Colby, Kan.) was 83rd in 30:07.73, Stevie Merrill was 85th in 30:10.95, and Gavin Tucker (FR/Wichita, Kan.) was 90th in 30:29.27.
The Coyotes finished fourth as a team, edged out by Southwestern for third place, but only by six points. KWU finished with 114 points.
Saint Mary, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA in the latest poll, was the KCAC Champion with 23 points, Friends was second with 82.
The NAIA National Championships are on Nov. 19 in Fort Vancouver, Wash.
