KWU women's tennis loses to Baker, 4-3

LAWRENCE – Kansas Wesleyan women's tennis faced the Baker Wildcats indoors at Genesis Health Club on Saturday and the Coyotes dropped the match 4-3 to the Wildcats.

The match is a schedule make-up for the loss of the Saint Mary match, due to Saint Mary not fielding a women's tennis team this season.

Baker would win the doubles point, taking two of the three flights. Carol Feraz-Porto and Chassidy Weathers beat Michaela Crowe (JR/Overland Park, Kan.) and Kristi Henderson (JR/Acton, Calif.) 6-2; and Dayna Steadman and Cambrie Frame beat Kira McGrown (FR/Wichita, Kan.) and Kyra Nolan (FR/Tribune, Kan.) 6-4. KWU's win came at No. 3 as Eliza Camp (SO/Winfield, Kan.) and Kaitlyn Wrye (SO/Olathe, Kan.) beat Clare Langfoss and Jordan Grabast 6-3.

In singles, both teams won three flights, but Baker would take the match.

KWU got wins at No. 1 as Crowe beat Feraz-Porto 7-6, 6-2; Camop beat Frame 7-5, 6-0; and Wrye beat Langfoss 6-2. Baker got wins as Steadman beat Henderson 6-4, 6-4; Weathers beat McGrown 6-3, 6-1; and Ciarra McWilliams beat Ania Bonner (FR/Midwest City, Okla.) 6-3, 6-2.

The Coyotes are back in action on Monday, facing Tabor College in Hillsboro. KWU plays its final home match of the regular season on Tuesday, hosting McPherson.
