ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball faced the No. 11 ranked Missouri Baptist Spartans on Friday night in the first Heart of America Conference road trip in program history.
MBU won with set scores 25-16, 25-14, 25-23.
In the opening set, the Coyotes had a 4-2 lead in the first set and led 6-4, but MBU scored the next four points to take an 8-6 lead. Jaron Lindsay's block tied things at 8-8 and the Coyotes had a 10-9 lead when MBU scored the next six to take a 15-10 lead.
The Spartans continued to pull away in the set winning 25-16.
MBU led 4-3 in the second set but blew it open with a 7-0 run to lead 11-3. The Coyotes battled back into it at 19-14 on a service ace by Zayin Martinez, but MBU scored the final six points of the set to win 25-14.
KWU led 7-5 in the third set but a six-point surge by the Spartans made it 11-7. KWU trailed 15-11 when the Coyotes got three straight to get within a point at 16-15. MBU got a point but then the Coyotes rattled off six straight points to take a 21-17 lead. The Spartans then answered right back with seven straight to take a 24-21 lead. KWU got two more points but MBU closed the match with a point.
The Coyotes hit just .056 for the match as Martinez led the way with six kills. Ethan Ricketts had 19 assists. Jeremy Lapeze had 10 digs.
