A Kansan whose sun art has been seen on CBS Sunday Morning multiple times will be featured at The Flower Nook this month.
Toni Brou grew up in southwest Kansas watching her dad create "junk art" from found objects. After achieving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design and illustration, she started incorporating found objects into her sun art as a tribute to her father. Her use of re-purposed items is also a tongue in cheek reference to hope, redemption and transformation.
CBS Sunday Morning has used two dozen of Brou's original suns as the show fades to commercial. Her Sun Over Sunflowers image was selected for inclusion in CBS Sunday Morning's 2022 Suns calendar and is the featured image for May. Visitors to The Flower Nook can register to win a copy of the calendar, according to information from The Flower Nook.
Additionally, Brou is scheduled to be in The Flower Nook, 208 E. Iron Avenue, from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday as part of The Nook's First Friday event.
The Flower Nook also has a variety of Halloween related items, including Laughing Forest artisan Halloween lollypops and a Halloween fortune cookie. According to co-owner Peggy DeBey, a "fun zombie trio" also will be walking the streets handing out special coupons.
As it that weren't enough, The Flower Nook will introduce four new artists/artisans into their artisan gift gallery, raising the total number of current, unique, regional artists/artisans exhibiting in The Flower Nook to more than 25.
