N’Guessan Named Big 12 Player of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior David N’Guessanwas named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday afternoon (Feb. 10) after averaging 21 points in helping Kansas State to wins over Arizona State and No. 16/17 Kansas last week.

N’Guessan averaged 21.0 points on 70.8 percent (17-of-24) shooting, including 50 percent (1-of-2) from 3-point range, and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from the free throw line to go with 7.5 rebounds in 34.4 minutes per game in victories over the Sun Devils and Jayhawks. He followed his season-high 22-point performance vs. ASU with a team-high 20 points vs. Kansas to post consecutive 20-point games for the first time in his career. He now has 4 career 20-point games.

N’Guessan opened the week by posting his first 20-point game in Big 12 play in a 71-70 win at Arizona State on Feb. 4 with a season-high 22 points to go with 8 rebounds in 36 minutes. He went 8-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-1 from 3-point range, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. He had the game’s biggest play, as he fouled Sun Devil freshman Jayden Quaintance as he was attempting the game-winning dunk with 4.1 seconds, forcing him to win the game at the free throw line. He missed both and K-State got the rebound to earn their second consecutive road game.

N’Guessan capped the week with a 20-point, 7-rebound performance in an 81-73 win over No. 16/17 Kansas at home on Feb. 8 to finish his career a perfect 3-0 at home against the Jayhawks. He went 9-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free throw line to go with his team-high 7 boards.The De Lier, The Netherlands native is the Wildcats’ leader in both scoring (13.0 ppg.) and rebounding (7.0 rpg.) while connecting on 64.5 percent (120-of-186) from the field. He has scored in double figures in a team-high 20 games, including 10 of 12 Big 12 contests.

In a matchup of the two hottest teams in the Big 12, K-State (12-11, 6-6 Big 12) plays host to No. 13/13 Arizona (16-6, 11-1 Big 12) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., CT on ESPN+.
