Richard “Dick” Dean Koenig
August 6, 1933 ~ February 29, 2024

Richard “Dick” Dean Koenig, 90, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Kansas City and Eureka, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at The Cedars, McPherson.  

He was born on August 6, 1933, in Wichita, KS, the son of Frank Henry and Maude Mae (Cummins) Koenig.  He graduated from Parsons High School and received an associate’s degree from Butler County Community College. On October 23, 1954, Richard was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Wood in Poplar Bluff, MO.  They were married for 68 years prior to her passing on June 23, 2023.

Richard served briefly in the United States Army and later enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  Prior to being a Regional Claims Manager for Farm Bureau Insurance, he was a Colorado State Highway Patrol Officer.  

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Masonic Lodge, Midian Shrine, Sons of the American Revolution, and Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three children, Cheryl (Galen) Swisher of Kula, HI, Steve (Connie) Koenig of Maize, KS, and Judy (Robert) Sanders of Evans, GA; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Lucille Taylor, Dorothy Pracht, Frank “Bud” Koenig, Charles Koenig, and Harry “Darwin” Koenig; and great-grandson, Hendrix Koenig.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 8, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Pracht officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday at the funeral  home.
